An Early Yinging-Glazed Porcelain Bowl

Early Northern Song, 10 century A.D.
Diameter: 6 3/8 inches (16.2 cm)

A bowl of upright form with notched rim, the interior with chrysanthemum flowers and wave designs in the Yue style, the exterior with vertical petals, under a pale blue glaze (See Yue bowl in the Percival David Foundation, illustrated by B. Gray in “Song Porcelain & Stoneware”, p.34 no. 11). I often use this bowl in the spring and summer time, serving exquisite Japanese hand-made off-white Udon noodles with seasonal fresh green herbs for topping.
